We usually have it at our place but my aunt + uncle insist on having it at their house. Problem is, we see them only a few times a year and it always feels like a formality. Apparently they’re having catered food. Who gets catered food on Thanksgiving?!
Thankfully I will skip most of the formalities since I have work 8-8 that day

I hate the holidays. Too much keeping of appearances. Someone will throw a fit and get if we don’t show up to such-and-such. A lot of emphasis on “family” for the sake of family even when many people in the room hate each other. A total fucking waste of my time and energy. Too many people not giving a shit about what works for other people.

My inlaw parents host every year. We get Easter, & other sibling inlaw gets Christmas.
A big meal with the works. We are in charge of sweet potatoes and deviled eggs.
It gets hectic with all kids inside because cold, but I don’t dread it. There is only one asshole in the family that seems to want to debate about anything and I mostly ignore him.
2 turkeys & a honey baked ham. I’m going to try and get my wife to make my mom’s chess pie recipe, then make 2 for T-diner if it works out. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/9090/chess-pie/
And bring on the pecan pie.

I can relate to this a bit. As I’m getting older and my own family is growing, I’m finding I have less time and tolerance for BS. This includes keeping up appearances for family get togethers.
I don’t have the time or patience to pretend that I like you (I mean, not you personally, I think your ‘yota posts are great).
Someone recently told me something that I thought was pretty great. Put all your time and effort into those that you love and enjoy being around. And everyone else can fuck off. Prioritize. Sage advice.
Happy Thanksgiving

Usually we’d spend it with either my parents or his, but not this year. My parents moved to the wrong end of the state, and since my partner is a retail store manager and has to work that day we can’t go visit them. His brother invited his parents and us to their house, but probably purposely set the time so my partner can’t go (he and his brother don’t really like each other). They still said I could come, but I think I’ll pass. So we’re just going to assemble ourselves a Thanksgiving dinner from preconstructed elements before his shift. Which is fine, it’s all good.

And yeah, this will be the first time I actually see any Thanksgiving football in the past few years. Also I had the foresight to ask for most of this week off, so I’m only working tomorrow. Should be a good week.

I have little family, and being an only child sucks on holidays especially christmas, new year’s and valentine’s day. And when the relatives call its annoying since they tell you that your cousin has a relationship while you told that you are lonely, old, somewhat fat, and quiet. Generally I hate the holidays and would rather get drunk in my friend’s basement than deal with the relatives calling. Worse is when all those dorming college assholes come home into town asking how has life been even though I hate their guts for calling me a dork that ran on dirt tracks while blowing a stupid saxophone.

My mother and my cousin got the brilliant idea to have Thanksgiving at a rented cabin in the mountains for a week, and invite the whole fam damnily. For at least three of the five days, we are up to 19 people in a cabin with a maximum occupancy of 12, and she doesn’t see anything wrong with this. She calls it “togetherness” while I call it claustrophobia inducing. Ten pounds of shit in a five pound bag to say the least. My only solace is a fresh bottle of Remy Martin and two fresh packs of my Nat Shermans, necessary as I may have forgotten to mention that 8 of these 19 are below the age of 10 and will get on my nerves to no end because I have school work to do.
And the drive to the cabin, which is in Kentucky because everything in NC was booked months ago, is six hours and 360 miles and I don’t like putting the S600 under that kind of pressure and extended use. The most I’ve ever driven it at once was 3 hours at a time.

I hate the food so much. Fortunately, my parents are on to this and Mom shares my utter disdain for turkey. Crisis averted.
I am certain someone, somewhere is gonna bring up the election, and at this point, I’d rather talk about explosive hemorrhoids. I will try my hardest to change the subject. “Heeeey, how about butt sores? Yeah, they’re bad. They really hurt, and there’s nothing that truly soothes them up in there.”
I will have pie and devilled eggs for sure, but yeah. I really hate Thanksgiving. It’s second only to Valentine’s Day when it comes to pointless nonsense holidays that need to be ripped from my calendar. I hated it more when I was an underpaid hourly worker back when I had my first job out of college, though. I wasn’t paid anywhere near enough, and I also didn’t get paid whenever there was a stupid holiday!
Give thanks every day, you ungrateful jamokes. We don’t need a stupid holiday for that. It’s a thing that you should do all the time. Why is there no Pay A Severely Annoyed Hourly Employee Day? Go feed an hourly kid or someone who truly deserves a break in life, if you must celebrate this stupid, pointless holiday.
